School Day - Medieval Cuisine
This year, on the occasion of the School Day, during the month of January, the students were involved in a variety of learning activities collaboratively planned by the teachers around the main project theme ‘Medieval Cuisine’.
Within the project the students explored the medieval cuisine and social class differences in food consumption (nobility vs. peasants), listened to the traditional music of Hrvatsko zagorje and learnt about the cultural heritage of Hrvatsko zagorje. They time-travelled to the Middle Ages to discover how a day in the life of a peasant and a landowner during feudalism looked like, to play the role of a chef of a medieval restaurant, to expand their knowledge on feudal society and Matija Gubec, a rebel against the feudal society, and to understand his role in fight for justice.
The students were especially engaged in the creative Visual Art workshops where they made the 3-D models of medieval foods out of clay and prepared a beautiful exhibition table that exhibited the differences in diet between the peasants and the noble. In addition, they made some artwork with a motif of the Konjščina Fortress and did some dramatizations on who they were on the feudal society pyramid.
