The programme encourages the use of variety of teaching and learning methodologies to produce a climate where students discover how they learn best in different contexts. The fundamental concepts of the Primary Years Programme are holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication.
The Primary Years Programme is a challenging framework with a constructivist, inquiry approach to teaching, learning and assessing. Students in the PYP make practical connections between their studies and the real world. Students who complete the PYP are well-prepared to undertake the IB Middle Years Programme.
The Programme of Inquiry is balanced across six transdisciplinary themes:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How we organize ourselves
- How the world works
- Sharing the planet
Students are encouraged to question and evaluate information, and to learn to combine relevant knowledge, experience and logical thinking to solve problems.
