World Environment Day
Since 1974, the World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 5 June to encourage awareness and action for the protection of the environment. It is a global platform for public outreach on topics such as marine pollution, human overpopulation, global warming, sustainable consumption and wildlife crime.
This year's theme is Ecosystem Restoration and it was hosted by Pakistan. We at MGIS marked this very important day as well.
We connected our ICT knowledge (very well gained during the period of distance learning) with enjoying the benefits of our school garden. MYP0 students, together with their homeroom teacher Mrs. Ivana and school librarian Mrs. Mirna participated in a treasure hunt workshop using schools tablets. They had to solve 6 riddles about plants from the garden and post photos of them as a solution in Padlet. They learned about edible plants, spices, plants we use in cosmetics, and they "visited" a brand new bug hotel.
They also had to think a bit about the benefits of having a school garden. All students agreed that it is, besides its educational value, a beautiful place to spend time in.
