International Mother Language Day 2022

International Mother Language Day 2022

We have explored the diverse languages our students speak in our classrooms and found out that 30 languages are spoken at MG: Afrikaans, Albanian, Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, Dutch, English, French, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Macedonian, Montenegrin, Norwegian, Persian, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Slovakian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tajik, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian and Xhosa.

From February 15th to 18th we marked the International Mother Language Day at our school. This day is important as it is a time to reflect on why we need to respect our language and the languages of those around us. The MYP students made the language learning brochures including an alphabet of their language, basic words and phrases, similarities between their language and English/Croatian and other interesting facts connected to their country and language.

In Geography and Design class the students proposed their design for the euro note featuring important people or landmarks from their country.

We are thankful to all our students, especially to Samuel, Rafael, Karla, Sara Z., Annalisa, Umika, Alexander, Mira, Hedie, Lara, Ipek, Luna, Kevin, Iris, Emmy, Viktoria, Szymon, Edgar, Mihajlo, Federica, Franciszek, Lina, Anja, Doruk and Yue for putting so much effort in promoting linguistic and cultural diversity in our school.
