Field trip to Istria

Field trip to Istria

On Monday 9th of May, PYP3 and PYP4 students went on a five-day field trip to Istria.

On the first day, after the check-in and lunch, students organized games in the resort. After dinner, it was time for a disco night.

On the second day, students went on a boat ride to Red Island. It is the biggest island of the Rovinj archipelago and represents an entity composed of 2 artificially connected islands: St. Andrew Island (Otok Sveti Andrija) and Maškin Island. The island is uninhabited and has an area of 0.233 square kilometers. It is lined up with the island of Maškin, Šturag, and Saint Ivan on the Horizon – which proves that once it was part of the mainland.

Students rode to the Lim Canal and visited Romulad's Cave on the third day. The cave had been formed 20000 years ago. Some of its deposited sediments have enormous paleontological and paleoanthropological value. Many animal remains were found, of which the most interesting are those of long-extinct species such as the cave bear, lion, leopard or cave hyena. After visiting the cave we went on Rovinj town sightseeing and explored this beautiful and trendy city.

Pula, another beautiful city was on our sightseeing schedule on Thursday. After visiting the famous Arena, we went to the Aquarium. The Pula Arena is a Roman amphitheatre. It is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre to have four side towers entirely preserved. It was constructed between 27 BC and AD 68 and is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas. The arena is also Croatia's best-preserved ancient monument.

On our way back to the school we went to the Istra Dinopark. To many students, this was the best part of the trip. Dinopark Funtana combines amusement park and show entertainment on the Croatian coast of Istria between Poreč and Vrsar in sunny Funtana.

After these five long days, we came home full of funny stories and events that we could not wait to retell to our families.
