Italian Gestures
The gestures have always been and still are a habit and a cultural element in Italy. The reason for having so many gestures in Italy is a result of its long history. Italy is a really long country from North to South. In past Italy didn't have its own standard language, Italians used many different dialects and couldn't understand each other. In order to trade and complete other events, they had to know each other's intentions. Italians invented many gestures which are passed down today. Today's Italians would do the gestures unconsciously, it already became an activity that they do daily.
Here are some important gestures:
Ma che fai?
They use it sarcastically when questioning someone's sanity by gathering fingertips to one imaginary point.
Spaghettata
Italians love their own cuisine and when they crave spaghetti they use their index and middle finger to imitate a fork picking up spaghetti.
Togliti!
When you get very angry with someone and you want that person to leave, use your other hand to smack the back of the hand that moves. Please be careful to use it only with your friends who get it as a joke, otherwise, it is very offensive.
Aumn, aumn...
You think something funny is going on? Lower your palm and move your fingers like you're playing the harp.
