Gubec Week at PYP

Gubec Week at PYP

In anticipation of our School Day, PYP students shortly went back in history, more precisely the 16th century, the time of Feudalism and Matija Gubec who led the Peasant Revolution.
Students read and discussed who Matija Gubec was and what he fought for. Along with that, students talked in general about the Middle Ages and what was that time like, including housing, education, food, clothes and much more. During Arts students learned about the coat of arms, they designed Matija Gubec International School’s Coat of Arms as well as painting a portrait of Matija Gubec, using tempera paint. A beautiful artwork can be seen in the Gubec Gallery at the the C entrance. During PSPE, students got jiggy and had fun dancing to Medieval tunes. At the time of Math, besides arithmetic, they worked in groups and showed off their logic and communication skills while creating
Medieval knights. Besides reading and writing English was also reserved for some Medieval stories and storytelling. While spending time out in the fresh air, students also gave a little bit of their time to tidy up the school’s playground, they became serious by taking the brooms and sweeping up the playground. Going to the climbing wall was a fav too. And to top it all off, at the end of the week, students along with the teacher’s help made some delicious apples in pancake dough, a true delicacy on a cold winter, snowy day.
