MYP0 and MYP1 Field Trip to Northern Dalmatia
From May 14th to 16th, we went on a three-day field trip to Northern Dalmatia.
On the first day, we took a boat ride through the Biograd Aquatorium, enjoying the beautiful scenery and islands like Murter and Pašman. We visited caged fish farms and continued to the island of Vrgada, where we learned that the island has no vehicles and only around 100–200 residents. There is a small school on the island with just eight students attending. It was interesting to see such a peaceful and unique way of life.
On the second day, we went on a Jeep Safari through Paklenica National Park. It was an exciting off-road adventure along the Master’s Road, where we enjoyed the stunning views of the Velebit Mountain and the Zrmanja River. We visited several filming locations from the Winnetou movie and made stops at Tulove grede, Queen’s Door, St. Francis Church, and the birth house of Luka Modrić. We also saw ancient tombs, discovered by archaeologists, where people lived over 3 000 years ago. After the tour, we enjoyed a delicious homemade lunch at a local farm, where the hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming.
In the afternoon, we headed to Zadar, where we split into small groups for a Treasure Hunt through the Old Town. This fun activity helped us explore and learn about key landmarks like the City Square, Five Wells Square, Land Gate, St. Anastasia’s Cathedral, St. Donatus Church, the Roman Forum, Providure's Palace, and Kampo Kastelo. We ended the tour at the Sea Organ and Greeting to the Sun, just in time to enjoy the world-famous sunset.
On the third day, we visited the Vrana Lake Nature Park. We learnt that around 256 bird species occasionally or permanently live in the area, representing about 65 percent of all bird species in Croatia. Although it was very windy and we didn’t see many birds, it was still a valuable visit. Then we went to Biograd, where we took a short walking tour and enjoyed some free time, many of us had ice cream, before heading back to Zagreb.
I think the trip was a great mix of learning and fun. Everything was well organised, we learnt a lot and had an amazing time. I’d love to visit Northern Dalmatia again!
