Celebration of the European Language Day
On the occasion of the European Language Day, which is celebrated every year on September 26, our school library hosted a language speed date from September 24 to 26 – short encounters between students and foreign language teachers. The aim of the event was to remind students, in an engaging and interactive way, of the importance of learning languages, while also giving them the opportunity to discover different languages and the cultural curiosities they bring.
Through a series of short conversations, students had the chance to interact with teachers of English, German, French, Croatian, Italian, and Chinese. Each “date” lasted only a few minutes, after which the students moved on to a new location and talked about another language. This fast-paced exchange of conversations and languages added a special dynamic and resembled the popular concept of speed dating – but in a linguistic and educational form.
In the relaxed atmosphere of the library, spontaneous communication flourished, and students demonstrated resourcefulness, courage, and creativity in expressing themselves.
With this event, our school contributed to the celebration of the European Day of Languages and once again highlighted that linguistic diversity is a value we should preserve and nurture. We would like to thank all the students and teachers who took part, and we look forward to more creative encounters in the library.
