Visiting Trakošćan Castle

Visiting Trakošćan Castle

PYP students and teachers visited Trakošćan Castle on Monday, 27 October. Trakošćan Castle is located near Bednja in Varaždin County and is considered one of the prettiest and largest castles in Croatia. Next to the castle lies a big, beautiful lake, and according to legend, a dragon lives beneath its surface (I would never go swimming there!).

It was a perfect, crisp but sunny autumn day—just right for a field trip. Students had the chance to step back in time and learn about history by walking through the castle’s halls. Inside, they explored many rooms filled with old-fashioned furniture. There were bedrooms, a kitchen, and a library that held more than 1,700 books. The portraits on the walls were around 300 years old. Students also visited the hunter’s room, where stuffed animals and hunting gear were displayed. Another room showcased a Bible and other holy objects once owned by the castle’s residents.

In all, the day was filled with laughter, friendship, beautiful hiking time, learning, and plenty of fun.
