MYP0 and MYP1 Field Trip to Istria

MYP0 and MYP1 Field Trip to Istria

From May 13th to 15th, MYP0 and MYP1 students went on a three-day field trip to Istria. During our trip, we experienced truffle hunting and traditional Istrian cuisine, explored the historic towns of Motovun and Poreč, took a boat ride through the stunning Lim Bay to discover its rich biodiversity and shellfish farming tradition, and challenged ourselves with water skiing and wakeboarding in Pula.

Our first stop was the Karlić Family Estate near Buzet, where we experienced the excitement of truffle hunting. Together with trained dogs and expert guides, we ventured into the forest in search of these prized underground delicacies. While the truffles proved elusive on this occasion, we enjoyed learning about the process and seeing the dogs enthusiastically follow scents through the woods. Although no truffles were found during our hunt, we still enjoyed an authentic truffle experience. At the Karlić Family Estate, we participated in a culinary workshop where we helped prepare traditional Istrian dishes such as truffle fritaja and pasta with truffles. The activity provided a unique opportunity to learn about local food traditions and experience the flavours that have made Istrian truffles famous around the world.

Afterwards, we visited the picturesque hilltop town of Motovun. We explored its narrow stone streets, ancient city walls, and historical landmarks while learning about the town's rich history and cultural significance. The breathtaking views of the surrounding Istrian landscape made the visit even more memorable.

On the second day, we explored Lim Bay by boat, learning about its unique ecosystem, diverse plant and animal life, and the local tradition of shellfish farming. Later, we visited the town of Poreč, where we wandered through its charming streets and cultural landmarks. A special highlight was the visit to the Euphrasian Basilica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its stunning mosaics and remarkable historical significance.

The final day brought an exciting challenge at Wake Park Pula. We had the opportunity to participate in water skiing and wakeboarding lessons under the guidance of experienced instructors. Many of us tried these sports for the first time, demonstrating courage, determination, and perseverance as we developed new skills on the water. The day was filled with laughter, encouragement, and celebration as we supported one another and enjoyed the thrill of mastering new challenges.

This three-day field trip provided us with a wonderful opportunity to explore Istria's rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage while participating in exciting hands-on activities. From learning about truffle hunting and local gastronomy to discovering coastal ecosystems and developing new water sports skills, we gained valuable experiences beyond the classroom. The trip also strengthened friendships, encouraged teamwork, and created lasting memories that we will cherish for years to come.
