MYP2 and MYP3 Field Trip to Southern Dalmatia
From May 19th to 22nd, MYP2 and MYP3 students took part in a four-day field trip to Southern Dalmatia. Travelling by plane and staying in Cavtat, we explored some of the region’s most important cultural, historical, and natural landmarks while learning outside the classroom.
The trip began in the beautiful coastal town of Cavtat, where we explored its historical centre. One of the highlights of the day was visiting the Vlaho Bukovac House, the birthplace of one of Croatia’s most famous painters. We learned about Bukovac’s life and artistic journey and discovered how his work helped shape Croatian art. Seeing original artworks and preserved rooms brought history and culture to life.
The second day was dedicated to Dubrovnik. We started with a visit to Lokrum Island, a protected nature reserve known for its botanical gardens, historical ruins, and unique natural features. After exploring the island, we continued to Dubrovnik Old Town, where we walked through its famous stone streets and learned about the city’s rich history. The day ended with a cable car ride to Mount Srđ, where we enjoyed breathtaking views of Dubrovnik, the Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding islands.
On the third day, we set off on a boat excursion to the Elafiti Islands - Koločep, Lopud and Šipan. We explored charming villages, admired traditional architecture, and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of island life. The excursion gave us a glimpse into the history, culture, and natural beauty of these unique islands.
Our final day took us to the Konavle region, known for its rich traditions and beautiful countryside. At the Konavle Heritage Museum, we learned about local customs, crafts, and everyday life in the past. We then visited Sokol Grad, a restored medieval fortress overlooking the Konavle Valley. Besides learning about its historical importance, we were rewarded with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
We returned to Zagreb with many wonderful memories and new experiences. While many of us had visited Dubrovnik before, for most students it was the first time exploring Lokrum, the Elafiti Islands, and the Konavle region. These places allowed us to discover a different side of Southern Dalmatia and made the trip both educational and unforgettable.
