PYP2 Inquirers: Are We Alone in the Universe?
Is there water on Mars? What is “a black hole”? Why do we need satellites? What would happen if there were no satellites? Why is our galaxy called “Milky Way”?
We got answers to these and many other questions from an astrophysicist, Dr Vibor Jelić.
Via Zoom, we listened to and watched his interesting lecture, ”Are We Alone in the Universe?” .
Since this week, 4-9 October, is the World Space Week, our librarian teacher Mirna suggested a wonderful idea to decorate the school’s library – papier mache planets and stars. We listened to her instructions carefully as she was explaining this art technique and enjoyed while creating our solar system.
The Art lesson with teacher Mirna and Dr Jelić’s lecture encouraged us to inquire more about planets in our solar system so we learnt some more interesting facts with teacher Tanja in the afternoon. We played the game “A Secret Message”. Each of us had to write a sentence about a specific planet but in a way as if the planet was saying it. We read them to the rest of the class and they had to guess which planet was talking.
Here they are:
“I am the closest planet to the Sun.”
“I have lots of seas.”
“I have no water.”
“Titan is my biggest moon.”
“I am the furthest planet from the Sun.”
“I am the coldest one.”
“I have a lot of storms.”
“I have the biggest moon.”
“I have no moons.”
“I am rocky and red.”
What do you think? Would you know the answers?
Hmm… Good luck!
