We All Smile in the Same Language
This year we decided to celebrate International Mother Language Day a bit differently, by smiling, because we all smile in the same language! Since 2000, on February 21st we tend to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism by celebrating International Language Day.
According to the United Nations (n.d.) "Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop fuller awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue".
International Mother Language Day in our school and schools worldwide is an occasion to educate the students about linguistic diversity and raise awareness of language issues, because linguistic diversity is increasingly threatened as more and more languages disappear.
